The Fragile Fetus

AUGUSTA, GA (PR) - Dr. Louis J. Guillette Jr., Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Marine Biomedicine and Environmental Science at the Medical University of South Carolina, is the guest lecturer for the Sixth Paul G. McDonough Lectureship and Symposium at the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University.


Guillette will discuss, The Fragile Fetus – The Environmental Endocrinology of the Developing Reproductive System, at noon May 16 in the small auditorium of the GRU Auditoria Center.

The lectureship was established by former fellows and faculty to honor McDonough, who directed the MCG Section of Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility, and Genetics from 1966-94.

Guillette is an Emeritus Professor of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Center of Economic Excellence Endowed Chair in Marine Genomics at MUSC. His research examines the role of environmental contaminants as inducers of birth defects in wild life and humans.

Other topics at the daylong symposium include reproductive care of cancer survivors, complimentary alternative medicine for uterine fibroids, and the molecular genetics of normal and abnormal uterine development.
