Funding for Boko Haram Must Stop

AUGUSTA, GA (PR) – When the terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped nearly 300 girls from the Chibok Government Girls Secondary School six weeks ago,  they were doing more than trying to strike fear in the hearts of the people of northeastern Nigeria. The kidnapping was a well thought out way of keeping the people in that region oppressed, says a Georgia Regents University expert.

The Pope at a Checkpoint

The world will be watching carefully as Pope Francis begins his historic visit to Jordan, Palestine, and Israel this weekend.

While he likely won’t have to go through checkpoints himself, the Pope will witness firsthand the suffering and unjust imprisonment of the Palestinian people. People of conscience like you and me will be asking, “What can we do to end the injustice?”

Common Core a 'Crystal Stair' for a Memphis School

In the last school day before Mother’s Day, 8-year-old Frankie Munthe was eager to share his interpretation of “Mother to Son,” with his classmates. He explained that it’s about “roadblocks,” referring to the poem’s first line: “Well, son, I’ll tell you. Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair. It’s had tacks in it, And splinters, And boards torn up, And places with no carpet on the floor— Bare.”

From typhoon relief fundraisers to voter-recruitment efforts, I have participated in these Internet-based campaigns and have seen the power that lies in we Americans when we are aligned to create change from behind our computers. It felt good to lend a hand and to know that my contributions made a difference in various campaigns.

Democracy Destroyed and Civic Innovation

DETROIT, MI (By Shea Howell) - Emergency Manager Orr has offered almost no structural change in his proposals to move Detroit toward financial health. He has slashed city workers, privatized services, and colluded in the sale of public lands for private gains. But he has done little to actually enhance revenue into the city. Other than increasing parking tickets, he has not used his powers to reassess revenue streams.

Peace Talks? Or Real Peace?

Israel’s sudden withdrawal from peace talks and its threat to punish the Palestinians for the Fatah-Hamas reconciliation agreement is a tactical move meant to deflect from the main cause of the failure of decades of peace talks —Israel’s ongoing settlement expansion and the entrenchment of the occupation, materially and diplomatically supported by the United States.
