Augusta Mayor to "Share Success" in Chicago

Mayor Deke Copenhaver will serve as a keynote panelist at the University of Chicago’s Cannon Design Office this Friday, October 25, 2013 in conjunction with the Harris School of Public Policy.

Mayor Copenhaver was selected to participate based upon the national recognition that Augusta, GA has received regarding public policy and urban design. His participation is intended to be a forum that will allow sharing with the City of Chicago some of the innovative initiatives and lessons learned in Augusta and how they might translate elsewhere.

“The opportunity to share the success story of Augusta, GA to a national audience is a tremendous compliment to our city,” remarked Mayor Copenhaver.  “More and more people at the regional and national level are taking note of the progress that we are making as a city and as a region.”

The panel, moderated by Tim Swanson of Cannon Design, will address the topic, “Tackling Big Change: a Panel Discussion on Cities,” exploring the role of consensus building as a driver for civic engagement, empowered communities as catalysts for urban growth and corporate responsibility in the public realm.

Cannon Design Vice President Eric Zachrison explains, “Collaboration between governments, professionals and students, discussing cities with both unique and similar opportunities, generates exciting ideas and relationships which empower cities to address their greatest challenges and pull their regions and nation forward.”

Also featured in the panel with Mayor Copenhaver are Paula Worthington, Senior Lecturer at the Harris School of Public Policy, Marissa Navara, Program Director with Metropolitan Planning Council, and Brian Fabes, CEO of Civic Consulting Alliance.
