12 Bands of Christmas to Light-Up Augusta Holidays

AUGUSTA, GA (AL DALLAS) - The Downtown Development Authority and City of Augusta will partner with 12 Bands of Christmas this year and bring the popular Christmas Concert to the Christmas Light-Up Spectacular Celebration December 7th at the Augusta Common.

The events were held a week apart last year and organizers met in January to discuss a partnership. DDA Director Margaret Woodard says,” Joe Stevenson has a popular Christmas Concert and 12 Bands of Christmas Album and we have a popular well-attended Christmas Celebration. We decided to join forces and leverage manpower and sponsorships for a bigger and better holiday event.

12 Bands Organizer Joe Stevenson adds, “The proceeds from the 12 Bands album benefit Pediatric Cancer. To date we have raised over a quarter of a million dollars for families being cared for at Children’s Hospital of Georgia. This is wonderful opportunity to raise awareness for our cause and showcase local musicians.”

December 7th promises to delight every one of all ages. The Augusta Market will hold a Holiday Market at the 8th Street Plaza from 9am to 5 pm. The 12 Bands concert will begin at the Common at Noon featuring Acosta, Celia Gary, Derelict String Band, The Gilded Youth, Happy Bones, The Hollerers, John Kolbeck, Leatherlips, Panic Manor, Skilyr Hicks, Adam Thompson and Karen Gordon.

The Miss Augusta Christmas Fantasy Parade will begin at 2:00 pm on Broad Street. Immediately following the parade, Family Fun will begin on the Common with Ornament Making, Cookie Decorating, Polar Express, Face Painting and a visit with Santa.

Mayor Deke Copenhaver will pull the switch at 6:30 pm and light up downtown followed by a fireworks extravaganza.  The 12 Bands performances will continue until 8 pm.

Mayor Deke Copenhaver says, “The Christmas Light-Up Spectacular is an event that I look forward to every year as it truly brings our community together during the holiday season.  Partnering with 12 Bands of Christmas in order to raise awareness of pediatric cancer definitely makes this year’s event all the more special.  I would like to personally invite everyone to come out and be a part of what has become one of Augusta’s true highlights of this special season.”

The event on the Common is free to the public. Toys for Tots will be collecting unwrapped toys and Harvest Food Bank will be collecting canned goods for those less fortunate during the holidays. Tickets to the 12 Bands VIP Tent are $30 and include food and beverage.
