AUGUSTA, GA (Anibal Ibarra) - The property tax bill has being delivered with the increase of 1.75 the mill approved by the Richmond County Commission. There were three public hearings before the final approval with overwhelming opposition to the hike in 7 years. Commissioner Mary Davis and former Commissioner Donnie Smith voted in favor of the minor increase before voting against. Davis was instrumental to get the first time 7 to 0 votes but later changed her mind.
The increase in the property tax bill still is the lower among the 159 counties in the state, according to the supporters of the new rate.
