Whistleblower to Speak in Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA (PR) - Cynthia Cooper, the whistleblower who helped uncover the $4 billion fraud at Worldcom, will speak at Georgia Regents University on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom on the Summerville Campus.

The free event is part of GRU’s Russell A. Blanchard Distinguished Lecturer in Ethics program and made possible by a donation from Georgia Bank & Trust in honor of Dr. Russell A. Blanchard.

In 2002, Cooper was the vice president of the Internal Audit department at Worldcom when her team of auditors unraveled what is being considered as one of the largest corporate frauds in history. To honor her bravery, Cooper was one of three people named “People of the Year” by TIME magazine. She was also featured as one of 25 influential working mothers in Working Mother Magazine.

Today, Cooper is an award-winning speaker, best-selling author, and consultant. She is also the inaugural inductee of the Institute of Internal Auditors American Hall of Distinguished Audit Practitioners. Cooper currently serves on the advisory boards for Louisiana State University and Mississippi State University.
