Azziz Elected Trustee for Commission on Colleges

AUGUSTA, GA (Jennifer Hilliard Scott) – Dr. Ricardo Azziz, President of Georgia Regents University and CEO of Georgia Regents Health System, has been elected to the Board of Trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Azziz, who will serve a two-year term, was elected during Commission’s College Delegate Assembly Business Meeting in December.

SACSCOC serves as the recognized regional accrediting body for degree-granting higher education institutions in the 11 southeastern states. Its main purpose is the improvement of educational quality and assurance to the public that member institutions meet a set of established standards.

As a trustee, Azziz will represent more than 800 member institutions and will be responsible for determining Commission policy, reviewing and making decisions regarding the accreditation of institutions, and conducting the initial review for proposed dues changes or any modifications to the Commission’s standards.

Azziz will also serve on the board’s Committee on Compliance and Reports, which evaluates institutional reports and formulates recommendations regarding institutions and their accreditation status with SACSCOC.

“I am honored that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges has selected me as a trustee and appreciate their confidence in my ability to help them continue their important work,” Azziz said. “I look forward to working with the board in the coming years to ensure optimum student success and well-being in our region’s institutes of higher learning.”
