AUGUSTA, GA (Al Dallas) - Mayor Deke Copenhaver will join the Augusta Downtown Development Authority and Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce Friday September 20th at 11 am for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 834 Greene Street. The 5300 square foot Queen Ann structure has been converted into six upscale apartments by Matthew Lewis, owner of the Belgium Elephant LLC. The restoration blends the past with heart pine floors, marble mantels and stained glass window, with modern amenities such as stainless appliances, granite counter tops and subway tiled bathrooms.
Mayor Deke Copenhaver says, “I applaud Matt’s investment in our downtown and his love of historic preservation. This is a beautiful certified historic rehabilitation and a project we can all be proud of.” Adds Margaret Woodard, DDA Director,” Matt is a great example of the next generation stepping up to the plate and investing in our city center. This project also supplies much needed market rate housing to the downtown core.”
The project has taken 2 years to complete and was a recipient of Georgia Cities Foundation low-interest loan. The total project cost is $750,000.
Immediately following the ribbon cutting, tours of the apartments will be available. The public is invited to attend.
