New Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence

AUGUSTA, GA (PR) - SafeHomes, Inc. set a goal late last year to build a new emergency shelter and expand its capacity to help those hurting from domestic violence in our community.  The organization is now ready to share its expansion program during the much-anticipated public kick-off event, ‘BREAK GROUND, BUILD HOPE, HEAL HEARTS’, tonight, Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Pinnacle Club.

Early platinum level investments ranging between $100K to $1M (spread over the expansion plan’s 5-year period) have set the tone for a successful fundraising campaign for this small but mighty organization. All early supporters to the campaign and the total amount raised to date will be announced at the kick-off celebration.

Special dignitaries and campaign leaders including Nan Richards, Campaign Chair, Mayor-elect Hardie Davis, Honorable Judge Jolly and a host of other community leaders, investors and domestic violence survivors will be in attendance.  They will be joined by JoAnn Herbert, Board Chair, and Aimee Hall, Executive Director, who will share how the funds will be used to keep victims safe, heal their hearts and help create a violence-free community.

Based in Augusta, SafeHomes, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that has served the community as the only domestic violence program for a 10-county region for over 30 years.  This is the organization’s first capital campaign.

The campaign has already raised $1.8 million towards its $3 million goal (over 60%).

SafeHomes announced the five-year plan to Break Ground on the new, state-of-the-art facility ($2.1 Million), Build Hope by seeding an endowment and community relations program ($560K), and Heal Hearts to ensure that all programs remain in step with demand ($340K).

The new 14,500-square-foot shelter will more than double its capacity to serve victims as it will include 36 beds, on-site victims’ services and staff offices, teen and child playrooms observable from the Child Coordinator office, two multi-purpose rooms for strengthening both mind and body, heighted security and much more.
