Slum Designation for Augusta

UPDATE 10-8-2013 - During a work session by four commissioners and the Mayor of Augusta, the group learned that calling slum almost 600 acres of downtown area will be beneficial for development. Slum it doesn't mean the zone is bad but that is in risk to become worst and that open a world of opportunities to get funds for many projects in downtown was the explanation. Constructions already are on the way but money still is not being allocated. Watch the building.

Hispanics Snubbed by President

President Obama snubs Hispanics again. Millions of them get news from Univision and Telemundo, certainly in far greater numbers than on MSNBC or CNN or ABC, NBC, CBS and NPR.
So who did Obama’s flacks offer long interviews to before his requested national time for a massive important national speech regarding the Syria crisis? Not the Spanish-language network Univision which regularly beats the other networks in areas like Los Angeles and Miami.

Obama goes out of his way to insult and demean Hispanics at every turn and what do his Hispanic acolytes do, they bend over and grab their ankles to enjoy being screwed by this President. Not this one.

AUGUSTA, GA (PR) 7/5/2014 - On the evening of July 4th, the Richmond County Sheriff Office conducted 3 road safety check stops during a 5 hour period.  On a positive note, compared to previous nights with road checks, only 13 persons were arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Although that number still needs to continue to be lowered it is far better results than those from last year during Operation Thunder (where many nights we saw 40 persons being arrested for DUI).  However, we did notice that we continue to have a major problem with children not being placed in child safety seats. 55 citations were issued for this violation which does not take into account warnings issued for minor child seat violations.

According to data from NHTSA, during July 4th holiday period over the last five years (from 2008 to 2012), 765 people lost their lives in crashes involving drivers with a BAC of .08 or more. These fatalities account for 40% percent of all motor vehicle traffic fatalities over this same five-year period.

The RCSO along with the Georgia State Patrol and those from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety will continue with a heightened presence through Sunday evening on our roadways in an effort to prevent crashes. DNR will also be on the water, including the Savannah River, doing their best to keep boaters safe.  Typically during a 4th of July weekend over 50% of crashes are directly related to alcohol consumption.  As of Saturday, July 5th, at 3:00pm, Richmond County roadways have not had any crashes resulting in serious injuries or fatalities.

Plan Ahead, Don't Drink and Drive or allow those you love to do so.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance from the public regarding “entering autos” within Richmond County.  We are experiencing an increase of automobiles being entered illegally and items being stolen from within the vehicles.  In the majority of all cases, these vehicles are parked in neighborhoods on the street or within shopping centers and are left unlocked; often times, items of value are left visible within the vehicle. Just this past weekend, we had 10 vehicles within the Meadowbrook area and 14 in the Manchester area off of Windsor Spring Road.

Assistance is needed by taking precautionary measures such as placing your vehicle within your garage or at least within the driveway, removing valuable items from vehicles, and locking your car doors whenever exiting the vehicle.  Additional safety tips are available on www.RCSOGA.org

Prior to the arrest of these 8 suspects the following additional incidents occurred that some if not all were a part of or present at.

Deputies located Marquez Eubanks and Jeremy Whitehead suffering from gunshot wounds.  Eubanks and Whitehead were transported to GRU ER for treatment and Eubanks died as a result of his injuries.  Investigators were able to identify Dijon Cortez Abbott as the suspect in this incident and apprehended Abbott late in the afternoon on 071913.  Abbott was charged in connection with this incident for Murder, 2 counts of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
During this investigation many of the suspects from the shooting incident on the 3300 block of Thames Place were identified as also being present and it was learned that the shooting was gang related arising from a dispute between “23rd” and “Six Hundred” (6Hunna) as both gangs were present at this incident.
On 072113 at approximately 0248 hours deputies were called to the 3600 block of Brussels Street in reference to a drive by shooting at a residence.
It was found that a blue Chevrolet Impala occupied by Jordan Jamal Lovett and Michael DiQuez Scott drove by a residence and opened fire from the vehicle on the residence.  Deputies observed damage to the house caused by the gunfire and recovered numerous shell casings from the street.
A resident at the house was believed to be a member or associate of Six Hundred and the suspects were members of “23rd”.  Both Lovett and Scott were charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
