AUGUSTA, GA (Anibal Ibarra) - Former First Lady Jocelyn Carter spoke at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History Thursday to near 50 people, during a campaign stop to ask voters to considere her grandson, Jason Carter, to be the next Governor. She spoke about mental health, education, jobs and other issues that put Georgia among the top 20 states in the Union when Democrats were in power more than a decade ago.

Medical Cannabis Study November 12
AUGUSTA, GA (Anibal Ibarra) 11/12/2014 UPDATE - The General Assembly could have the votes in 2015 to pass legislation allowing cannabis oil treatment to patients with serious medical conditions. The Joint Study Committee met at Georgia Regents University (GRU) to hear experts and make their case during the next legislature session. Around $8 millions might cost to study 50 patients for a year. GRU would like to use Epidiolex in their investigations.

Bus Route to Connect Fort Gordon and Mall
UPDATE (Anibal Ibarra) : A short drive from the Augusta Mall to Fort Gordon seems like a gigantic move to keep expanding public transportation. The new rout #10 was launched November 3, 2014. In May 2015 will be reviewed the service in order to make the necessary adjustments, according to city officials.

Leonidas Polk: Confederate Fighting Bishop
AUGUSTA, GA - Lieutenant-General Leonidas Polk, of the Army of Tennessee, was killed by a cannon-shot in 1864, while engaged with his associates in command in making observations at the immediate front. Polk changed his mind about continuing as an Army officer and chose the priesthood instead. He also was a plantation owner in Louisiana with 200 slaves, according to scholars.

AUGUSTA, GA (Anibal Ibarra) - The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in cooperation with Mayor Deke Copenhaver’s Office kicked off the Augusta Book Program as part of this year’s 25th Annual Greek Festival. Through this new program, thousands of brand new text books from mainline publishers will be distributed during festival hours free of charge to any private or charter schools, homeschool and after school programs, libraries, or to any needy groups or families that may utilize them to enhance and promote higher standards of education among the youth throughout CSRA.

Augusta Commission Did It Again
AUGUSTA, GA (Anibal Ibarra) - During the same session was approved the tax excise subsidy on energy for industries while the Augusta Richmond County Commission denied a break to a non-profit organization, Augusta Care Pregnancy Center, for the use of the TEE Center. Commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle insisted that non-profits -including churches- must start paying taxes or fees for city services. On the other hand, a city employee complained for unsafe work environment while law enforcement officers were praised by the Commission for outstanding job in reducing crime in the county.
Suspended For Seeking Safety
AUGUSTA, GA (Anibal Ibarra) - Stanley Brown, Director of the Bernie Ward Community Center from 1941 Lumpkin Road, protested before the Richmond County Commission for being suspended after requesting for security. He told the city legislative body that he and his family was threaten by someone at the work place. Parks and Recreation management stated that safety of city employees is a priority.
