Donald T. Sterling is No Aberration
Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald T. Sterling is no aberration. On an audio recording that allegedly captures Sterling telling a girlfriend that he doesn’t want African-Americans at “my games” and it ignited a furor. But it’s part and parcel of an increasingly rotten and ugly saga that has become all too familiar in recent days.

SPLOST VII is Vital to Pass for Sheriff Roundtree
“There have been some concerns surrounding some of the other items that have been included in the package and I too acknowledge that it is not a perfect package. I would urge you in the future to hold your elected officials strictly accountable for the operation of our city. But if the current SPLOST does not pass, there is currently no other funding source to obtain the items I have listed, which are vital to the operation of the Sheriff’s Office.”

For people with disabilities, however, particularly for those who have physical disabilities, their major concern is whether they can get into the stores or buildings in the first place and, once in, whether they have access to the goods and services they need.

MARTA Increases Service, Expansion Ahead
ATLANTA, GA (FOOTNOTES#83) - The last decade has been a tough one for supporters of public transportation, largely characterized by funding and service cuts, missed opportunities to get commuter rail going and general treatment as a political punching bag. However, it now seems as though we have turned a corner, and the future of public transit in Georgia continues to grow brighter with the Atlanta Streetcar nearing completion, the Atlanta BeltLine continuing to make progress and support building for it around the region as people flock to the Eastside trail. MARTA’s new CEO, Keith Parker, has made great strides in his first year to put MARTA’s house in order. Last week, MARTA announced the system will be restoring some of the rail and bus services cut in recent years, which will decrease waiting and help draw more customers as using the service becomes a faster and more convenient alternative.

The State Department will take more time to consider the impacts of the as-yet-undecided route through Nebraska, and other concerns raised in the more than 2.5 million public comments submitted earlier this year. This will likely push a final decision until after the 2014 midterm elections or later.

Fight Georgia Corruption
I try to avoid discussing specific candidates who are running for office but in light of the condition of the Georgia House I am making an exception to write you a personal note on what I believe to be arguably the most important race in Georgia this year. This race is not even in the general election during November but occurs next month on May 20 in the Georgia primaries. It is the 7th District race between Speaker of the House, David Ralston and coach Sam Snider. Most of you know who the speaker is but do not know Sam Snider. Sam is a remarkably successful high school wrestling coach with a work ethic that has resulted in 13 state championships. Coach Snider has a deep faith in God and strong family values, anchored by his 28 year marriage and two grown sons. He is a citizen with little political experience who wants to serve the district, not a career politician encumbered with a huge burden of special interests. Mr. Snider is challenging the speaker in the Republican primary even though the Democrats will not field a challenger in the general election.
