3rd Annual Literary Festival in Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA (Corey Washington) - The Augusta Literary Festival is proud to announce the winner of the 2014 Yerby Award. The Yerby winner is Charmaine Zimmerman-Brackett, a local writer. Her teary eyed reaction was priceless, as she accepted her award in an arm sling. She beat out a very talented pool of authors. Charmaine’s win is even more impressive since her book, The Key of Elyon, is her first.

UPDATE: On Saturday January 18, at 0315 hours 8 year old Michael Mosqueta was located safe and unharmed. Details on where Mosqueta was located are not available at this time.

Missing 8 year old child H/M Michael Mosqueta 4'06/70lbs last seen 7pm leaving 3008 Clakston Road off Bel Air Road in the Granite Hill subdivision wearing a towel. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sheriffs Office at 706-821-1080.

Georgia Regents Medical Center Limits Visits Due to Flu

AUGUSTA, GA (Denise Parrish) – Georgia Regents Medical Center is temporarily restricting hospital visitation of friends and family under age 12 in an effort to help prevent the spread of influenza virus and other circulating respiratory illnesses. In addition, guests who are experiencing flu-like symptoms should not visit patients at the medical center or Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

GRU to Release 12 Bands of Christmas CD

AUGUSTA, GA (Christen Carter)  – Georgia Regents University and The 12 Bands of Christmas will celebrate local bands with ties to the university with the release of a new CD featuring their music. 
Volume I, which includes music by GRU students, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters, features tracks by Black Swan Lake, Eskimojitos, Funk You, Impulse Ride, Jeremy Graham Band , People Who Must, Snapdragon, The Radar Cinema, The Ramblin’ Fevers, and Will McCranie.

Sheriff Won't Need Search Warrant to Inspect Businesses

UPDATE: Ordinance 7409 was approved January 7, 2014. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office will have the responsibility for the enforcement of the Second Hands Ordinance. The Sheriff, or his(her) representative, will have the authority to inspect establishments licensed during the hours in which the premises are open for business. These inspections should be made for the purpose of verifying compliance with the requirements of the ordinance and state law. The Richmond County Commission will vote to approve on January 7, unless some Commissioner changes his/her vote at the last minute.

Tameka Allen is the Interim Administrator of Richmond County

UPDATE: Tameka Allen was appointed Interim Administrator effective January 7, 2014, of Richmond County until a permanent one is found and hired. The Mayor can't have two salaries and absolute power after all. The information was learned from other sources than the city officials. Fred Russell was fired last month by the Commission during a closed door emergency meeting. Later the Commission elected the Mayor to fill the Administrator duties. According to the information we have received the Mayor by law can't have both positions.

First Culinary Graduation at Helms College

AUGUSTA, GA (Barry Paschal) - Helms College, Augusta Campus, will celebrate the success of its first graduating class of culinary students with a ceremony set for 6 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Snelling Center, 3165 Washington Road at Fury’s Ferry Road.
