Father Bourgeois "Disturbing the Peace" in Atlanta


Father Roy Bourgeois is a Vietnam veteran, priest and peace activist. He founded the School of the Americas Watch (SOAW) in 1990, after the killing of thousands of Central Americans at the hands of dictators and military forces trained by the U.S. Army at the SOA at Fort Benning. Ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1972, in recent years he has become an outspoken advocate for the ordination of women as priests. In 2012 the Vatican dismissed him from both the Maryknoll order and the priesthood for participating in the ordination of a woman.

"Let Freedom Ring" From Augusta


The Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta is joining with the King Center and the 50th Anniversary Coalition to help culminate the 50th anniversary of The March on Washington and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech with “Let Freedom Ring” bell-ringing events across the country at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on August 28th, a half-century to the minute after Dr. King delivered his historic address.

Search for Sandra Coke Ends After a Body is Found


VACAVILLE (New America Media) - The search for a missing criminal defense investigator from Oakland ended Friday as authorities found a woman's body in Vacaville. There was no confirmation that the body was that of 50-year-old Sandra Coke. But after sending dozens of local police officers and FBI agents to search lakes and open space in two cities Thursday night and Friday, authorities called everyone back once the body was found in Vacaville about 1 p.m.

Fight For Voting Rights in Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA – Citing the need to fight back against nationwide efforts that have hammered away at the right to vote, the Dean of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Joseph Lowery, will join civil rights, religious, civic and labor leaders and legislators at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, to launch a 50-state project aimed at restoring, preserving and expanding free, fair and accessible voting rights.
